A Shout-out From Coach Wannstedt

by Stache Staff - July 30th, 2010

Today Coach Wannstedt, Dion Lewis, and Greg Romeus spent the day on ESPN’s campus, appearing on various TV and radio shows, and even internet chats.  One particular chat question with Coach Wannstedt caught our attention:

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The entire transcript of the chat can be found at: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/33576/buzz-with-dave-wannstadt

A ‘Stachetrospective – ‘Staches Throughout Pitt History

by Stache Staff - July 19th, 2010

The pervasiveness of the ‘Stache is nothing new to the University of Pittsburgh football program. Actually, its roots can be traced all the way back to the beginning. The first coach to understand its mystical power was Arthur “Texas” Mosse, when in 1904 he led our Pitt Panthers to their first undefeated season. Throughout the years, many coaches and players began sporting the fuzzy upper lip, some using it to establish their true manliness and others in hopes of achieving greatness on the field. Our current leader, Coach Wannstedt, is the current torch bearer of the ‘Stache. He wears this symbol with pride and knowing full well the responsibility that goes along with it. For support, Coach has assembled the finest army of ‘Staches to embark upon the mission of returning the Pittsburgh Panthers back to the national championship.

In the coming season, Coach Wannstedt will again set out to follow in the footsteps of the great Arthur Mosse and lead our Panthers back to the top of the Big East where we belong. While we wait for the season to kick off, we have compiled a list of the top 5 Pitt Panthers mustaches.

We’ve Trimmed Up The ‘Stache

by Stache Staff - July 1st, 2010

The new season is upon us. After a highly successful campaign in 2009 and a lot of great feedback from fans, we have spent the offseason hard at work to improve our image. We’ve trimmed up the ‘Stache and came out with a cleaner look.

Our biggest change and the one we are most excited about: we are now printing our shirts locally. This is being done right in the heart of Pitt’s Campus in Oakland at Underground Printing. This not only enables us to deliver a superior product at a better price, but we’re also able to support local business. We narrowed the selection down to one official shirt which was last season’s most popular. For all the ‘Turn It Blue’ games, you need not look any further than your official Fighthing Wannstaches shirt! Currently shirts are only available online from our store, but make sure to swing by the Underground Printing store on Meyran Ave. and check out our shirt on display in the window!

Don’t worry, for all your other Fighting Wannstaches needs we have kept the merchandise store open. All of these items will still be made by a third party, so it is a separate store and a checkout procedure from the shirts.

Some of our other changes include developing a more streamlined look for the website. Things were happening fast last season and the site started to get overloaded. The new look will make it easier to navigate as we keep you updated on all the latest Pitt football news.

Thanks again for all the support! We will be kicking off the new store with a “pre-sale” soon. Details will be announced shortly so stay tuned!

Fear the ‘Stache!

And the 2010 recruiting class has signed…

by Stache Staff - February 3rd, 2010

In what turned out to be an uneventful day, the Panthers signed all 24 of their commitments today. The staff had wrapped up most of its 2010 recruiting efforts a few weeks back and have begun work on 2011…

10 Wins…and a Cool Trophy!

by Stache Staff - December 28th, 2009

The Panthers closed the books on the 2009 season with a 19-17 win over UNC in the Meineke Car Care Bowl for their 10th win of the season, a first since the 1981 season! Dion Lewis also broke the freshman rushing record previously held by Tony Dorsett.

Help Support Our Panthers!

by Stache Staff - December 10th, 2009

meinekeBowl season is just around the corner! This year the Panthers will take on an ACC foe in the North Carolina Tar Heels at the Meineke Car Care Bowl on December 26th. Located in Charlotte, NC, the game is only a short 7½ drive from Pittsburgh. What better gift for the Pitt fan in your family or if you just need to get away from yours!

Can’t go to the game, or just want to help out those in need? Join the Fighting Wannstaches in donating game tickets to children’s charities in the Charlotte area. The Pitt Ticket Office can help out in the donation of tickets.

Remember, every ticket sold from Pitt’s allotment for the game (whether you are attending or for donation) makes the team and fan base that much more attractive for bowl games in future seasons!

For ticket information, donation information, official travel packages, and other information related to the game, visit the Pitt Panthers Bowl Central, or contact the Pitt Ticket Office at 412-648-PITT (7488).

Hail to Pitt!

Soon, Cincinnati Too Will “Fear The ‘Stache”

by Stache Staff - November 29th, 2009

It all comes do to this…One Game. The first 10 win regular season since 1981. The Paddlewheel Trophy. The Big East Conference Championship. A BCS Bowl.

stache_thumbThis is undoubtedly the biggest game in Pitt football in nearly three decades, and the team needs us, the fans, now more than ever. We put on a great show against Notre Dame before a huge audience, and again the entire country will be watching. This will be the largest crowd Cincinnati has played in front of all season, and we need to use that to our advantage. On December 5th, we will need to make Cincinnati “Fear The ‘Stache!” Once again, we are encouraging everyone to spread the word (and the video), print out the sign from the Street Team page, and take them to the game. Hang the signs on your car on the way there and at your tailgate beforehand! Students, hang them in your windows, in your dorms, and around campus!

It’s Senior Day, let’s do what we can to send the guys out on a high note, and let’s help make this the best atmosphere ever at Heinz Field! Hail to Pitt!
