Who We Are

One dark and rainy day in Pittsburgh, which could be any day, the thought occurred that the Pitt football fans were missing something. Something universal to unite the them…something bigger than you or me…something to instill fear into every opposing team… something to not only celebrate Pitt football but also to pay homage to the best mustache since Magnum PI – The awesomeness that has become known as The Wannstache. Pitt basketball has the Oakland Zoo, the Steelers have the Terrible Towel, the Pirates have…um…running pierogies? Now Pitt Football has The Fighting Wannstaches!!! Opponents should prepare to “Fear The ‘Stache!”

AnthonyAnthony (anthony@thefightingwannstaches.com)
A Pennsylvania native who moved to Pittsburgh at age 5, Anthony moved away 7 years later but never mentally left the city. After years of fighting with Philadelphia fans in the central part of the state about why Pittsburgh is better; Pitt was chosen for college. He is currently living the trifecta of Pitt Alum, Staff, and Student; and bows to the amazing Wannstache anytime he comes across it on campus. His first Pitt football game was a 12-0 shutout of Penn State, but his deepest regret is never going to a game at Pitt Stadium.
BryanBryan (bryan@thefightingwannstaches.com)
Growing up in Western PA, sports has always been a way of life for Bryan. But the day that he jumped 20 feet from the student section of Pitt Stadium to the field and carried the goal posts after its final game, the connection to his alma mater became more than that. He can still tell you where he was when Tyler Palko was “so proud of our (bleeping) team” or when the hopes and dreams of the entire state of West Virginia were crushed beyond recognition. Bryan can also recall his one meeting with the Wannstache. The brief passing midway through a marathon training run enabled him to complete the full 20 miles despite being injured, something he would not have been able to otherwise.
JoeJoe (joe@thefightingwannstaches.com)
Growing up around Pittsburgh, rooting for Pitt is more than just a pastime for Joe, it’s a family tradition and a lifestyle. When it came time to apply to colleges, there were no such thing as choices, Pitt was it and the rest was history. Also being a facial hair aficionado, Joe is waiting for the time that he is able to achieve the pinnacle of coolness that allows him to sport the moustache but until then he will stick with the beard. Joe longs for the day that JoePa finally disappears and Penn State decides to man up and play Pitt again.
TomTom (tom@thefightingwannstaches.com)
A jack of all trades, when Tom isn’t creating inspiring moustache-related artwork, he’s living his life like the anti-Bruce Wayne: fighting crime by day, mild-mannered at night, and flat broke. Tom currently lives in New York City, a strange place with millions of colleges but no college football. He does what he can, though, often confusing his co-workers who insist that the Panthers come from Carolina.
